Shopping for a new float can be a little daunting, when manufacturers start talking in acronyms !! We thought we'd explain the weight versus, the loaded weight versus the towing weight capacity acronyms.

TARE weight – Sometimes called unladen weight, is the weight of an empty vehicle / horse trailer. Tare is the actual weight of your float when it is empty. This will be listed on the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) plate, which is located on the draw bar of your Discovery Float.

GVM – Gross Vehicle Mass – This is a rating, specified by the manufacturer, that stipulates the maximum total weight of a vehicle and its load (including any trailers and load) that the vehicle is engineered to carry as it hits the road

ATM - Aggregate Trailer Mass - This term refers to the combined weight of both your float and its load. It is important not to exceed the ATM of your float, as the axels will be rated to carry a limited weight.

GCM – Gross Combination Mass – The total weight of a vehicle and its load plus any equipment, trailer, and its load. This total should not exceed a vehicle GVM.
